Obama’s Trip: No Bounce, Flags, or Wounded Soldiers

Sunday, July 27, 2008 8:15 PM

By: Newsmax Editorial Article Font Size

Sen. Barack Obama’s international globe-hopping to the Mideast and Europe was meant to burnish his credentials as a foreign policy and potential military leader – the strong suit of his Republican rival Sen. John McCain.

Despite the media love fest over the political junket, Obama has yet to pull away from McCain in the polls. His campaign had expected a minimum eight-point lead after Obama clinched the Democratic nomination back in June, with even more momentum moving his way as the campaign progressed.

Both the most recent Real Clear Politics rolling average and the Rasmussen tracking poll that coincided with the end of Obama’s trip this weekend show Obama with just a five-point lead over McCain -- consistent with his numbers for the past two months. [Press reports this weekend have almost completely ignored the Rasmussen poll to only report on a Gallup poll, which showed Obama with a nine-point lead. Not as good as the Newsweek poll from June, which had Obama 15 points ahead of McCain.]

With President Bush suffering low approval ratings, the economy moving into a recession as gas prices surge above $4 a gallon, and growing resentment about the unending war in Iraq, Obama should be pulling away in the polls.

But he isn’t.

The Obama campaign has been quick to be out front on the bad news, claiming -- at the end of the trip -- it never expected a poll bounce from Obama’s trip anyway.

Obama campaign manager David Plouffe told Politico’s Mike Allen: “We wouldn’t expect any sort of -- I guess the term people use is ‘bounce.’”

In fact, during Obama’s global meet-and-greet tour, McCain’s poll numbers have risen in key battleground states like Ohio.

As crowds cheered Obama globally, Americans here on the homefront were left wondering if the Illinois senator wants to be their president -- or the president of some other country. [And whether the major U.S. media would at least offer the pretense of objectivity. An MSNBC poll from last week found that 47 percent of the public thought the coverage of Obama’s trip was “excessive.”]

After Obama’s speech to an estimated 200,000 Germans in Berlin, a columnist for Britain’s Guardian newspaper began his review this way: “Barack Obama has found his people. But, unfortunately for his election prospects, they're German, not American.”

Obama's speech to the Germans left much to be desired, from an American’s perspective.

For starters, the crowd’s size was beefed up by the fact that the event was billed as a free rock concert for German citizens, with popular musical performers helping to draw the big crowd. Scant U.S. media even noted the warm-up rock draws of reggae artist Patrice and rock band Reamonn.

Then there was the simple stage, with the podium surrounded by three potted plants. Missing was the American flag -- nowhere to be seen. Perhaps Obama’s staff might consider the U.S. flag offensive.

And then there was his speech, in which he proudly proclaimed he was in Germany as a “a fellow citizen of the world.”

And there was the spectacle of the presidential wannabe going to a foreign land to apologize about the United States.

Obama told his German audience he was sorry about his country because “I know my country has not perfected itself.” [This comment was made in the former seat of Nazi power. A letter to editor published in Obama’s hometown Chicago Tribune noted the irony: “While America may not be perfect, there is no reason to apologize to the Germans, architects of the Holocaust.”]

As for America’s role in saving Germany from the onslaught of Stalinist communism and the subsequent Cold War, there was nothing.

There was a rhetorical flourish about the Berlin Wall coming down, but nothing about the great American sacrifice, not to mention how our military might made President Reagan’s call -- “Tear down this wall, Mr. Gorbachev” -- a reality.

There was a fleeting mention of the famous Berlin airlift of 1948 that President Truman ordered to thwart the Soviet blockade that sought to starve West Berlin.

As Boston Globe columnist Jeff Jacoby wrote, “Obama seemed to go out of his way not to say plainly that what saved Berlin in that dark time was America's military might.

“Save for a solitary reference to ‘the first American plane,’ he never described one of the greatest American operations of the postwar period as an American operation at all. He spoke only of ‘the airlift,’ ‘the planes,’ ‘those pilots.’ Perhaps their American identity wasn't something he cared to stress amid all his ‘people of the world’ salutations and talk of ‘global citizenship.’”

The Hollywood-staged Obama event for a man who has yet to ascend to the presidency didn’t sit well with all the Germans. Germany’s Stern magazine carried the headline "Barack Kant Saves the World."

One of their columnists, Florian Güssgen, wrote: "The man is perfect, impeccable, slick. Almost too slick … Obama's speech was often vague, sometimes banal and more reminiscent of John Lennon's feel good song 'Imagine' than of a foreign policy agenda."

Slickness without substance seemed to be the enduring theme of his trip. Among the little hiccups covered up by the major media, there were several gaffes on the global coronation trip.

Perhaps the most notable -- and reprehensible -- was Obama’s decision to cancel a visit to wounded American soldiers at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in southern Germany.

Apparently, the Pentagon informed Obama that since his visit was a political one, the hospital visit would be only open to him and his official Senate staff. This excluded the press and campaign officials.

The Pentagon did offer to allow Obama’s campaign plane to land at the nearby U.S. air base at Ramstein. The media also was to be accommodated there.

Without the photo opportunity and his press entourage, Obama declined to meet the wounded soldiers. At first, Obama’s campaign claimed to the press he decided to cancel the trip to visit the troops because it was "a trip funded by the campaign," and therefore somehow inappropriate. [What is inappropriate about a presidential candidate visiting wounded troops?]

But the Obama story belies the fact it was only after the Pentagon closed the event to his traveling press, that Obama’s campaign nixed the event.

Rightfully, McCain noted that it is never inappropriate for a candidate or official to visit U.S. troops.

"If I had been told by the Pentagon that I couldn't visit those troops, and I was there and wanted to be there, I guarantee you, there would have been a seismic event," McCain said.

McCain continued the attack on ABC News Sunday show “This Week”: “Those troops would have loved to see him, and I know of no Pentagon regulation that would’ve prevented him from going there” without the news media.

The McCain campaign has been quick to pounce on Obama’s obvious slight to the troops and double-talk, airing a new commercial this weekend.

“And now, he made time to go to the gym, but canceled a visit with wounded troops,” the ad says. “Seems the Pentagon wouldn’t allow him to bring cameras. John McCain is always there for our troops.”

McCain added that Obama “certainly found time to do other things."

One of those other things Obama did was visit Paris and hold a joint press conference with French President Nicolas Sarkozy, typical of an American president visiting the French capital.

Interestingly, The New York Times quoted Elysee officials that “Obama aides insisted that an American flag not be displayed alongside the French flag because Mr. Obama is only a visiting senator and not the president.”

There is no protocol preventing an American official from having the flag displayed when abroad.

America snubbed once again by a lame excuse.

Exclusive: Obama’s Rainbow Tour…Shades of EvitaPrint This

Pam Meister

Let’s hear it for the Rainbow Tour
It’s been an incredible success
We weren’t quite sure; we had a few doubts
Will Evita win through?
But the answer is yes…

(Lyrics from ‘The Rainbow Tour’ in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Evita)’

Presidential candidate Barack Obama just returned from a whirlwind tour in the Middle East and parts of Europe. He wowed ‘em in Germany with a speech in Berlin delivered to thousands. (Having a free concert just before the speech like there was in Portland, Oregon back in May couldn’t have had anything to do with the large crowd, right?) He played basketball with a handful of troops in Afghanistan (while snubbing those recuperating at the Landstuhl Medical Center in Ramstein, Germany because a photo op could not be obtained). He met with world leaders. He walked on water, healed the sick, and fed thousands with just a handful of loaves and fishes.

In other words, it was just another week on the Obama campaign trail, each moment reported in excruciating detail by his faithful followers in the media who have plenty of time for it, seeing as how they seem to have forgotten that this is not a one-man race. German public television’s original estimates of 20,000 spectators at the Berlin speech somehow grew to a miraculous 200,000. But what’s a hundred thousand or so among friends? The important thing here is that Obama has given Europe a reason to believe and hope in America once again.

Spain has fallen to the charms of Evita
She can do what she likes, it doesn't matter much
She's our lady of the new world with a golden touch
She filled a bull-ring, forty-five thousand seater
But if you're prettier than General Franco, that's not hard

Funny thing is, though, that as much as they wish they could, Europeans can’t vote in American elections. So one imagines they’re biting their nails over in the Old World, hoping the churlish, boorish, Luddite American voters in the New World do the right thing.

There you are, I told you so
Makes no difference where she goes
The whole world over just the same
Just listen to them call her name
And who would underestimate the actress now?

But how did Obama’s world tour go over with Americans? Were they convinced that Obama was merely on an extended fact-finding tour in order to bolster his foreign policy credentials? According to a Fox Opinion Dynamic poll, 47% believed that this was a campaign event, while only 19% thought it was a fact-finding mission. (25% thought the trip was a little of both.) And as for the big bounce this tour should have had, the race between Obama and John McCain remains in a statistical dead heat in most polls. Considering historic trends, this election should have been in the bag for Democrats. That McCain, who has had much less media coverage than Obama, is nipping at his heels is not a harbinger of great things to come in November.

As Carrie Budoff Brown notes, “[I]f Obama fails to win the White House because he couldn’t close the sale in Poughkeepsie rather than Paris, a trip that Republicans have described as an extended photo opportunity could appear silly in retrospect.”

But hold on…not everyone in Germany was impressed:

The Hollywood-staged Obama event for a man who has yet to ascend to the presidency didn’t sit well with all the Germans. Germany’s Stern magazine carried the headline "Barack Kant Saves the World."

One of their columnists, Florian Güssgen, wrote: "The man is perfect, impeccable, slick. Almost too slick … Obama's speech was often vague, sometimes banal and more reminiscent of John Lennon's feel good song 'Imagine' than of a foreign policy agenda."

It makes me wonder why we haven’t seen an Obama ad with the senator superimposed into one of those old Coca-Cola ads where everyone is standing around singing about “perfect harmony.” Maybe the same guy who ripped Hillary with his remake of the Apple 1984 ad can be persuaded to work his computer magic once again.

Eva started well, no question, in France
Shining like a sun through the post-war haze
A beautiful reminder of the care-free days
She nearly captured the French, she sure had the chance
But she suddenly seemed to lose interest
She looked tired

Someone else is tired from all of that globetrotting and flesh pressing. Obama checked in to a hospital upon his return to the U.S. because he had a sore hip from playing basketball. (He’s seen exiting the hospital here, looking more like a skinny kid running for class president than a grown man running for POTUS.) And even back in May it was noted that Obama was often tired. Don Surber wonders:

Tired? The man is all of 45. John McCain is 70 and served 5 1/2 years in a Vietnamese dungeon. He never complains about being tired. Why is Obama tired all the time? Has he no stamina at all?

Indeed. The president must be on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, even when he’s on vacation – national security crises don’t wait until his two weeks are up. But there’s nothing to see here, folks. Move along.

Like Eva “Evita” Perón, Obama had no official reason to make such a noisy splash overseas, reminiscent of the old Nestea plunge (ahh!). She was the wife of Argentina’s president; he’s a U.S. senator who is running for president. While a fact-finding mission is appropriate during a campaign – especially for a candidate with as little legislative or executive experience as Obama has – giving speeches that resemble political rallies (and that downplayed “American strength and resolve” during the Cold War “in a paean to international cooperation”) is not.
Also worth noting is that Evita was called Dama de la Esperanza (the Lady of Hope), and she didn’t believe in private charity, but social aid under the guise of the state, where all citizens were required to “voluntarily” contribute to her charity fund. Evita herself had this to say about private charity:

Charity humiliates and social aid dignifies and stimulates. Charity is given discreetly; social aid rationally. Charity prolongs the situation; social aid solves it…Charity is the generosity of the fortunate; social aid remedies social inequalites. Charity separates the wealthy from the poor; social aid raises the needy to the level of the well-to-do. (Evita: First Lady, John Barnes, Grove Press 1978, pg. 120)

Obama, seen by many as the arbiter of Hope, also believes charity begins not at home, but in the legislature:

“The idea here is to give everyone one big refund on their government — divvy it up into some tax breaks, hand them out, and encourage everyone to use their share to go buy their own healthcare, their own retirement plan, their own unemployment insurance, education, and so forth.”

In Washington, he said, “They call this the Ownership Society. But in our past, there has been another term for it — social Darwinism, every man and woman for him or herself.”

In other words, the people can’t be trusted to do the right thing, so taxes (“voluntarily” given, according to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid) collected and redistributed by the government are the answer. In fact, Obama’s generosity with American tax dollars extends beyond U.S. shores to the “global community,” – to the tune of $845 billion – and his Global Poverty Act would end up making Americans subservient to the whims of the incurably corrupt UN.

Are shades of Evita during the 2008 presidential campaign life imitating art or art imitating life? The American voter must be the judge.

Let’s hear it for the Rainbow Tour
It’s been an incredible success
We weren’t quite sure; we had a few doubts
Will Evita win through?
But the answer is yes…

Obama As Seen in the Eyes of a Soldier in AfghanistanCPT J. P.

Editor’s note: This is an authentic e-mail from a soldier currently serving in Afghanistan, reprinted exactly from the original.
Hello everyone,

As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to 'The War Zone'. I wanted to share with you what happened.

He got off the plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle, got to the area to meet with the Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram.

As the Soldiers where lined up to shake his hand he blew them off and didn't say a word as he went into the conference room to meet the General. As he finished, the vehicles took him to the ClamShell (pretty much a big top tent that military personnel can play basketball or work out in with weights) so he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball. He again shunned the opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service.

So really he was just here to make a showing for the American's back home that he is their candidate for President. I think that if you are going to make an effort to come all the way over here you would thank those that are providing the freedom that they are providing for you.

I swear we got more thanks from the NBA Basketball Players or the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders than from one of the Senators, who wants to be the President of the United States. I just don't understand how anyone would want him to be our Commander-in-Chief. It was almost that he was scared to be around those that provide the freedom for him and our great country.

If this is blunt and to the point I am sorry but I wanted you all to know what kind of caliber of person he really is. What you see in the news is all fake.

In service,
CPT J. P.

"Am I a Racist? Are you a Racist? Read Below Article.......

New York Governor David Paterson gave one of the keynote addresses at the NAACP's 99th annual convention at Cincinnati last week. According to one newspaper account he “suggested that the defeat of Senator Obama in the presidential election would be a victory for racism in America.”

Huh????? Is Governor Paterson implying that anyone who votes against Barack Obama is a racist????? Can’t someone vote against him because they don’t trust his flip-flopping on major issues? Or they worry a President Obama will join the ranks of Presidents Hoover and Carter and raise taxes during a recession? Or they think Senator Obama’s plan for immediate withdrawal from Iraq would snatch defeat from the jaws of victory? Or they suspect his brand of “aggressive diplomacy” with Iran would result in an Iranian nuclear arsenal? Or they believe he’s too inexperienced and untried to be president in these precarious times?

Is this what political correctness has brought us to? That we are now a nation of people who are assumed to cast our votes, not on the basis of a candidate’s record or policies, but merely on the basis of his race and ethnicity?

If so, we can forget about America. Because our greatest strength, the reason for our vitality, our creativity, our energy, our unprecedented success, is that we are a nation of the most diverse people in history. That we believe through hard work and initiative a person can rise above the circumstances of his birth. That in America a person can be anything he wants to be.

Are we to take that extraordinary advantage, the quality that makes us the envy of the world, turn it on its head, and make it our greatest weakness? America will become a nation of broken dreams if we are a nation divided, balkanized into dozens of groups pitted against each other, divided by the color of our skin, or our gender, or the year of our birth, or where our grandparents came from.

In fairness to Governor Paterson, he did talk about the need for all Americans to move beyond race, and movingly about his own experiences as an African American. But his very premise, that Senator Obama’s defeat will be a victory for racism, is twisted logic. It is by very definition…well….racist.

Think about it. By Governor Paterson’s line of reasoning, is anyone who voted against Hillary Clinton a sexist who discriminates against women? Or anyone who votes against John McCain an ageist who discriminates against people over 65?

The fundamental principle of our democracy is that people vote. That means somebody has to lose. American voters hail from every racial, religious, and ethnic group. If you follow Governor Paterson’s logic, the most important difference between our two presidential candidates is race. Not only is that morally offensive, it is just downright wrong. And it is this line of thinking, this extreme political correctness, that pits American against American. It may have begun with the best of intentions, but political correctness has now become the very thing it was supposed to defeat.

Is it racist or sexist for a person to be sick and tired of political correctness? A number of journalists have remarked on the difficulty of applying the same scrutiny to America’s first serious African-American candidate for President lest they be accused of discrimination. So they have erred on the side of handling Sen. Obama with kid gloves. But no one disputes they traded the kid gloves for brass knuckles when it came to Hillary Clinton. She was running neck and neck with Barack Obama during the primaries, but the pundits chanted a constant chorus calling for her to get out of the race. Does that mean they are sexist?

Some people will no doubt brand me a racist for criticizing Governor Paterson’s speech, but it is about time someone stood up to say that political correctness has gone to far. It may have made sense years ago, but today stands in the way of us working together to solve our problems. Enough already. Let’s stop thinking of ourselves as African-Americans or Irish-Americans or Italian-Americans or Hispanic-Americans or Asian-Americans or native-Americans. Let’s all just be Americans.

Barack Hussein Obama First Hours in Afghanistan and is now an Expert!

Obama Says Situation in Afghanistan Is Precarious

Sunday, July 20, 2008 11:30 AM

KABUL, Afghanistan -- Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama says the situation in Afghanistan "precarious" and "urgent."

In an interview broadcast Sunday during his first trip to Afghanistan, Obama said the U.S. needs to start planning now to send in more troops. He has called for an additional one to two brigades _ or about 7,000 troops _ to be sent to Afghanistan to help counter a resurgent Taliban and quell rising violence.

Obama told CBS News that Afghanistan has to be the central focus in the fight against terrorists.

He said the Bush administration allowed itself to be distracted by a "war of choice" but now is the time to correct the mistake.

Obama also sat down with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and pledged continued aid to the country.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) _ Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama pledged steadfast aid to Afghanistan in talks with its Western-backed leader Sunday and vowed to pursue the war on terror "with vigor" if he is elected, an Afghan official said.

On the second day of an international tour designed to burnish his foreign policy credentials, Obama and other U.S. senators held two hours of talks with President Hamid Karzai at his palace in the Afghan capital.

Obama has chided Karzai for not doing more to build confidence in the Afghan government, whose grip remains weak after the ouster of the Taliban in 2001.

U.S. Embassy spokesman Mark Stroh said the senators had discussed issues including the painstaking rebuilding of the country's government and economy, the security situation and corruption with Karzai.

The Afghan presidency said Obama's message was positive.

"Sen. Obama conveyed ... that he is committed to supporting Afghanistan and to continue the war against terrorism with vigor," said Humayun Hamidzada, Karzai's spokesman.

Both Democrats and Republicans "are friends of Afghanistan and no matter who wins the U.S. elections, Afghanistan will have a very strong partner in the United States," Hamidzada said.

Obama has made Afghanistan a centerpiece of his proposed strategy for dealing with terrorism threats.

The Illinois senator has said the war in Afghanistan, where Taliban and al-Qaida-linked militants are resurgent, deserves more troops and more attention as opposed to the conflict in Iraq.

While officially part of a congressional delegation on a fact-finding tour also expected to take him to Iraq, Obama traveled in Afghanistan amid the security accorded a likely Democratic nominee for president rather than a senator from Illinois.

Media access to Obama was limited, and his itinerary in the war zones was closely guarded. Traveling with him were Sens. Chuck Hagel, a Nebraska Republican, and Jack Reed, a Democrat from Rhode Island.

Obama made no public comment after the meeting with Karzai, which included a traditional lunch of mutton, chicken and rice washed down with a yogurt drink.

Earlier in the day, he praised U.S. troops during breakfast with soldiers at Camp Eggers, a heavily fortified military base in the city.

"To see young people like this who are doing such excellent work, with so much dedication ... it makes you feel good about the country," Obama said.

"I want to make sure that everybody back home understands how much pride people take in their work here and how much sacrifice people are making. It is outstanding," he said in footage filmed by the military and obtained by The Associated Press.

On Saturday, the delegation received briefings from U.S. commanders and a former Afghan warlord who is now the governor of Nangarhar, a province in eastern Afghanistan where militant attacks are spiraling.

Obama's first overseas tour since securing the Democratic nomination _ he is scheduled to travel to Europe through next week _ could be key to honing his foreign policy strategy with less than four months before the Nov. 4 election. His rival for the presidency, Republican Sen. John McCain, has criticized Obama for not spending more time in the region.

Obama advocates ending the U.S. combat role in Iraq by withdrawing troops at the rate of one to two brigades a month while increasing the military commitment to Afghanistan. Obama has proposed sending two more combat brigades _ about 7,000 troops _ to Afghanistan. McCain also is advocating sending more forces to the war-battered country.

U.S. military officials say the number of attacks in eastern Afghanistan, where most of the U.S. forces in the country operate, has increased by 40 percent so far this year compared to the same period last year.

Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, told The Associated Press on Saturday that after intense U.S. assaults there, al-Qaida may be considering shifting focus to its original home base in Afghanistan, where American casualties are recently running higher than in Iraq.

Obama also has expressed weariness with efforts by Afghanistan's neighbor, Pakistan, to go after militants in its territory. That frustration may strike a chord with Karzai, who has accused Pakistan's intelligence service of supporting the Taliban insurgency _ a claim that Pakistan denies.

But Obama also has chided Karzai and his government, saying it had "not gotten out of the bunker" and helped to organize the country or its political and security institutions.

"Obama’s Inexperience Tough to Ignore "

Obama’s Inexperience Tough to Ignore

Tuesday, July 15, 2008 8:56 AM

By: Ronald Kessler

A close look at Barack Obama's career reveals it has been even more mediocre than generally recognized.

Before being elected to the Illinois state Senate, Obama worked as a community organizer and a lawyer in Chicago.

In his memoir, Obama says being a community organizer taught him how to motivate the powerless and work the government to help them. His chief example is an effort to remove asbestos from Altgeld Gardens, an all-black public housing project on Chicago’s South Side.

But those who were involved in the effort say Obama played a minor role in working the problem and never accomplished his goal. A pre-existing group at Altgeld Gardens and a local newspaper, the Chicago Reporter, were working on the problem before Obama came on the scene, yet Obama does not mention them in his book, “Dreams From My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance.”

“Just because someone writes it, doesn't make it true,” says Altgeld resident Hazel Johnson, who had been pushing for a cleanup of the cancer-producing substance years before Obama showed up.

Rep. Bobby L. Rush, D-Ill., says it was Johnson's work, along with asbestos testing by the Chicago Reporter, that got Chicago officials interested in the issue. Rush, who launched an inquiry into the situation when he was a member of the Chicago City Council, says he is “offended” that Obama did not mention Johnson in his account.

“Was [Obama] involved in stuff? Absolutely,” says Robert Ginsburg, an activist who worked with Johnson and Obama on the problem. “But there was stuff happening before him, and after him.”

After three years working as an organizer, Obama could say he helped obtain grants for a jobs program and got asbestos removed from some pipes in the project. But as the Los Angeles Times has noted, the “large-scale change that was needed at the 1,998-unit project was beyond his reach.” To this day, most of the asbestos remains in the apartments.

Fruitless though his efforts were, Obama devoted more than 100 pages to his experiences at Altgeld Gardens and surrounding areas. Michelle Obama has said his work as a community organizer helped him decide “how he would impact the world,” assisting people to improve their lives. Yet, in a revealing passage in his book, Obama wrote, “When classmates in college asked me just what it was that a community organizer did, I couldn’t answer them directly.”

Instead, he said, “I’d pronounce on the need for change. Change in the White House, where Reagan and his minions were carrying on their dirty deeds. Change in the congress, compliant and corrupt. Change in the mood of the country, manic and self-absorbed. Change won’t come from the top, I would say. Change will come from a mobilized grass roots.”

Thus, Obama admitted that he accomplished little but that he was able to cover that up with fancy talk about change.

After going to Harvard Law School, Obama returned to Chicago, where he briefly headed a voter registration drive and then became a lawyer. While Obama’s campaign has touted him as a civil rights lawyer, “Over the nine years that Obama’s law license was active in Illinois, he never handled a trial and mostly worked in teams of lawyers who drew up briefs and contracts in a variety of cases,” according to David Mendell’s “Obama: From Promise To Power.”

A review of the cases Obama worked on during his brief legal career “shows he played the strong, silent type in court, introducing himself and his client, then stepping aside to let other lawyers do the talking,” the Chicago Sun-Times has reported.

“A search of all the cases in Cook County Circuit Court in which Obama made an appearance since he graduated from Harvard in 1991 shows: zero,” the article said.

Instead, his practice was “confined mainly to federal court in Chicago, where he made formal appearances in only five district court cases and another five in cases before the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals — a total of 10 cases in his legal career,” the paper said.

If Obama had virtually no impact as either a community organizer or as a lawyer, he was even more invisible in the state Senate and later in the U.S. Senate.

In both bodies, Obama had a reputation for voting “present,” thus avoiding controversial decisions that could be used against him later. In the U.S. Senate, he has missed more than one in five votes.

Only one of the measures Obama has sponsored as a U.S. senator was enacted: a bill to “promote relief, security, and democracy in the Democratic Republic of Congo.”

Contrary to Obama’s portrayal of himself as a unifier, on every bipartisan effort in the Senate to forge compromises on tough issues, Obama has been missing in action.

In sum, it would be difficult to imagine a more mediocre record. Most candidates for dog catcher have contributed more to society. Yet with the help of adoring reporters, Obama has managed to parlay extraordinary speaking and political skills into a presidential campaign built on sand.

The idea that America might entrust its security and future to someone who has never demonstrated an ability to get anything of significance done is scary.

Look for John McCain to begin exploiting this vulnerability after Labor Day.

Military Security Specialists Pan Obama’s Unconditional Surrender In Iraq

Military Security Specialists Pan Obama’s Unconditional Surrender In Iraq
Published by AJStrata at 12:43 pm under All General Discussions, Iraq

It is becoming quite clear Barrack Obama is going to have to admit defeat on his plans to surrender unconditionally in Iraq. The facts on the ground are pressuring him to get real on this matter, and cause another break with his already fed up base:

Military personnel in Iraq are following the presidential race closely, especially when it comes to Iraq.

The soldiers and commanders we spoke to will not engage in political conversation or talk about any particular candidate, but they had some strong opinions about the military mission which they are trying to accomplish, and the dramatic security gains they have made in the past few months.

We spent a day with Maj. Gen. Jeffery Hammond in Sadr City. He is the commander of the 4th Infantry Division, which is responsible for Baghdad. Hammond will likely be one of the commanders who briefs Barack Obama when he visits Iraq.

“Instead of any time-based approach to any decision for withdrawal, it’s got to be conditions-based, with the starting point being an intelligence analysis of what might be here today, and what might lie ahead in the future. I still think we still have work that remains to be done before I can really answer that question,” Hammond said when asked how he would feel about an order to start drawing down two combat brigades a month.

Basically, Obama is facing serious blowback (couched in professional, but serious terms) from the military who have worked so hard, and sacrificed so much, to bring the situation in Iraq to a point where it is poised to move into a sustainable and stable secure, democratic ally to the US in the war on terror. These gains should not be dismissed. Nor should the human toll in bloodshed that would result in an unconditional surrender. And neither should the enormous potential we could gain from a successful end in Iraq. All of these need to be considered seriously, and not just passed over as if there was some “Easy Button” out there on Iraq any old fool could push and things would be OK.

Obama media networks and the Obama campaign responds!

Friends of ALIPAC,

You know you have hit a nerve when you send out a press release criticizing Obama's comment "You Need To Make Sure Your Children Speak Spanish" accompanied with Rasmussen polls that show over 80% of Americans disagree and within 48 hours several major pro Obama media networks and the Obama campaign responds!

Now, let us remind everyone that ALIPAC is not endorsing a Presidential campaign and we promise to dish it out to Obama and McCain equally where they are out of line with your views on illegal immigration. In this case, we took action against Obama after seeing many of your responses to his statements.

In the last 48 hours the New York Times, ABC News, CBS News, the Associated Press, and the Economic Times from India have all come to Obama's defense against the ALIPAC Press Release after the Obama campaign officially responded.

Obama's strategy is to dodge the issue of his comments about Spanish and to try and redirect this by admitting that he does not speak any foreign languages, that he wants kids to have more knowledge and skills, and that learning other languages is a good thing.

The biased media reports are defending him in three ways:

1. They are playing up his response about learning other languages being good while many of the reports completely omit his comments of contention, "You need to make sure your kids learn Spanish." They are omitting this comment and the Rasmussen Polling we provided in the release showing opposition to what Obama said.

2. They are attacking ALIPAC and claiming our press release comments that "Barack Obama has stepped on a political land mine by stating Americans should be forced to learn to speak Spanish. They claim he did not say Americans should be forced. We stand by this comment because parents "making sure" their "children learn Spanish" would give American students very little choice in the matter. We also used the word forced because Americans are already being forced to push '1' for English and to learn Spanish to keep their jobs or to be hired for many jobs thanks to the millions of illegal aliens who refuse to learn English.

3. Obama and the media are claiming this is a "Republican" attack on his campaign which is false. ALIPAC is a nonpartisan political action committee. That is our official designation with the FEC. Many Republican websites published our press release while removing the language "Obama is completely out of touch on immigration issues just like McCain."

ALIPAC never tried to distort what Obama said like these propaganda outlets are doing. We even provided a link directly to his speech in our press release!

One of these press responses claims we stated on our site "Voters Reject Obama's call for Bilingualism." We did not say that; Rasmussen Reports Polling said that. See for yourselves at...

Barack "Hussein" Obama: Obama Tells American Kids to Learn Spanish

Barack "Hussein" Obama: Obama Tells American Kids to Learn Spanish

"Barack Obama is no John Wayne"

GUEST OPINION by Don Bendell

WHERE IS JOHN WAYNE’S AMERICA?

I grew up in Ohio watching and idolizing John Wayne and all the cowboy hero figures and dreamed of becoming an American cowboy. When I became an adult and a Green Beret serving in the Vietnam War, who was the one man who consistently and staunchly went against the grain and stood up for all my fellow vets and me in those days? Oddly enough, it was my old hero John Wayne who played a Green Beret in the movie of the same name. Have we actually progressed since those thrilling days of yesteryear, or have we regressed? We had enemies since 9-11 refer to our President as a “cowboy” or as “John Wayne,” and they said it as a putdown. Then many liberal politicians and left-leaning media mimicked our enemies and tried to chastise him the same way. I moved to Colorado years ago to realize my childhood dream, and I am very proud to be a real American cowboy with a real horse. I too have had people try to put me down by saying I am a “John Wayne-type,” because they were angered by my straight-talking editorials or speeches in the past. They actually felt that they were criticizing me, but I cannot tell you how complimented I felt by such a comparison.

For years, I have listened to liberals and many news media call George W. Bush a liar, a scoundrel, and many other vile names stating that he out and out lied about Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq. Now, however, it has been not claimed or alleged, but very clearly proven and documented that over one million two-hundred thousand pounds of concentrated uranium called Yellowcake, and numerous devices to produce hundreds of nuclear bombs have just been discovered at Saddam Hussein’s Tuwaitha nuclear complex only 12 miles south of Baghdad. These have recently been safely removed from Iraq and shipped to Canada for storage. This is not a hoped for conservative victory, or surmised claim by a right wing weblog, but a major news story by the Associated Press, who picked it up from a foreign newspaper who broke the story, not the ever-vigilant see-themselves-as-Woodward-and-Bernstein American press corps. Why have you not heard about it as the lead story on any of the major news networks? Why have you not read about it on the front page of every paper in our nation? Also, why have we not heard any of the vociferous congressional leaders or liberal broadcasters publicly apologize to the President of the United States who they so loudly slandered the past five years with the entire world listening, especially our enemies while we are at war? Where is John Kerry now, John Murtha, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barack Obama, and all the other slanderers? Where are the apologies from the Hollywood elite who seem to feel they have all the answers for our nation, especially when they are plugging their latest movie releases or books?

George W. Bush has certainly had his warts, such as previously having bad-taste in selecting a Secretary of Defense. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were not originally prosecuted properly, but General Petraeus, like John Wayne, brought in the Cavalry and started “the Surge.” Now, Iraq has done a complete turnaround and the war will be ended within one year. Not only is it winding down now significantly, the London Times this week declared the War in Iraq to essentially be over. Finally, doing it right, we have now started a do-over in Afghanistan, which will work this time. Have the liberals who wanted to cut and run apologized? No, they ignore the good news and still claim the sky is falling. I am sorry folks; I don’t care what pollsters that libs are listening to, all citizens, especially warriors hate war and are tired of this one, but most Americans want us to win the war, not surrender. If you are a liberal who has only protested this war or maybe the Vietnam War, there is a big difference between you and me, a major difference. Like John Wayne’s characters I was willing to risk my life for what I believed in, but you instead only risked a pair of flex cuffs or a water cannon for what you believed in. That was like me getting into the ring with Mike Tyson and you getting into a pillow fight with Elton John.

You liberals were all quick to pounce on the President, but why have you not been quick to apologize since he was proven to be correct? I will tell you why. John Wayne and men and women of his stripe are dead and gone, and our congressional leaders have generally morphed into a marble-floored building full of pencil-necked, panty-waist wimps. Political cowards who look to the flag pole first to see which way the wind is blowing before making a stand on anything. Their charismatic leader is a political chameleon, Barack Obama, who changes positions to match the voting trend environment faster than Britney Spears changes personalities.

George W. Bush has done a number of things wrong but at least he was a leader with some gumption, courage, and tenacity to stay the course. He stuck to his guns and now he has been proven right, and the critics are either too busy choking on the crow they had to eat or are simply moral cowards in regards to correcting or retracting their horrendous accusations about the resounding success of The Surge, and now about the discovery of Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq, which President Bush tried to warn us about in his 2003 State of the Union address.

John McCain is running for President and yes, he has his faults, too. But he is not a carbon copy of GWB that Obama apologists would have you believe, and which insults the intelligence of thinking voters. However, one of the things that McCain does have in common with George W. Bush is that they each have a little bit of John Wayne in them. Some have branded McCain as a “maverick.” That is exactly what we need now in our President more than ever. And no, Barack Obama is not another John F. Kennedy who created the Green Berets. John F. Kennedy was a great speaker, and like John McCain, was a war hero. Barack Obama is simply a great speaker, but the only courageous thing he has bragged about was repeatedly risking prison breaking the law by snorting cocaine and as he said it, “smoking reefer with his buddies.”

John Wayne said, “A man ought to do what he thinks is right.”

George W. Bush did just that, and he has been proven to be right. Senator McCain, to the frustration of both democrats and republicans at times, has shown that he has been willing to stand his ground on principle and not spin around in the political breezes that blow in every direction. Now more than ever, our nation needs political leaders like this man who have a little bit of “The Duke” in them. If not, there are gangs of outlaws just waiting in the shadows of the gulches and canyons of freedom who are watching for any sign of weakness so they can bushwhack us.

Most modern day political leaders and many self-described journalists need to rent some John Wayne movies and learn a lesson or two about standing their ground and not waving the white flag of cowardice. And they need to learn to become men or women of strong enough character to now apologize.

YA GOTTA LOVE HIM....A MUST READ...PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR...READ THIS!
The Plan!
?
Robin Williams, wearing a shirt that says 'I love New York ' in Arabic.

You gotta love Robin Williams......Even if he's nuts! Leave it to Robin Williams to come up with the perfect plan. What we need now is for our UN Ambassador to stand up and repeat this message.

Robin Williams' plan...(Hard to argue with this logic!)

'I see a lot of people yelling for peace but I have not heard of a plan for peace. So, here's one plan.'

1) 'The US will apologize to the world for our 'interference' in their affairs, past & present. You know, Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Tojo, Noriega, Milosevic, Hussein, and the rest of those 'good 'ole' boys', we will never 'interfere' again.

2) We will withdraw our troops from all ov er the world, starting with Germany , South Korea , the Middle East , and the Philippines . They don't want us there. We would station troops at our borders. No one allowed sneaking through holes in the fence.

3) All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and leave We'll give them a free trip home. After 90 days the remainder will be gathered up and deported immediately, regardless of whom or where they are. They're illegal!!! France will welcome them.

4) All future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90 days unless given a special permit!!!! No one from a terrorist nation will be allowed in. If you don't like it there, change it yourself and don't hide here. Asylum would never be available to anyone. We don't need any more cab drivers or 7-11 cashiers.

5) No foreign 'students' over age 21. The older ones are the bombers. If they don't attend classes, they get a 'D' and it's back home baby.

6) The US will make a stro ng effort to become self-sufficient energy wise. This will include developing nonpolluting sources of energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while

7) Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries $10 a barrel for their oil. If they don't like it, we go someplace else. They can go somewhere else to sell their production. (About a week of the wells filling up the storage sites would be enough.)

8) If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we will not 'interfere.' They can pray to Allah or whomever, for seeds, rain, cement or whatever they need. Besides most of what we give them is stolen or given to the army. The people who need it most get very little, if anything.

9) Ship the UN Headquarters to an isolated island someplace. We don't need the spies and fair weather friends here. Besides, the building would make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens.

10) All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way, no one can call us 'Ugly Americans' any longer. The Language we speak is ENGLISH..learn it...or LEAVE...Now, isn't that a winner of a plan?

'The Statue of Liberty is no longer saying 'Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses.' She's got a baseball bat and she's yelling, 'you want a piece of me?' '

If you agree with the above forward it to friends...If not, and I would be amazed, DELETE it!!

Barack Obama “bitter” quote

By now, you've all heard the Barack Obama "bitter" quote: "And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations." This offensive and misguided quote probably struck a nerve with you. Well, we've created a new yard sign that will send a message from all of you "bitter" gun owners to Obama this election season with our own slogan: "I'm a Bitter Gun Owner and I Vote!"

Obama says he used "poor phrasing" on Jerusalem

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama said on Sunday he used "poor phrasing" in a speech supporting Jerusalem as the undivided capital of Israel.

"You know, the truth is that this was an example where we had some poor phrasing in the speech. And we immediately tried to correct the interpretation that was given," he said in an interview aired on Sunday on CNN's "Fareed Zakaria -- GPS."

"The point we were simply making was, is that we don't want barbed wire running through Jerusalem, similar to the way it was prior to the '67 war, that it is possible for us to create a Jerusalem that is cohesive and coherent," Obama said.

Obama's campaign has issued similar clarifications since the candidate's speech to pro-Israel lobby group after he clinched the Democratic presidential nomination early last month.

In the speech, Obama told the American Israel Public Affairs Committee that if elected president in November, he would work for peace with a Palestinian state alongside Israel.

"Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided," the Illinois senator said. Palestinian leaders reacted with anger and dismay.

Israel calls the city its undivided and eternal capital, but this status has never been recognized internationally. Palestinians want East Jerusalem, captured by Israel in 1967, for a future capital.

The U.S. Congress passed a law in 1995 describing Jerusalem as capital of Israel and saying it should not be divided, but successive presidents have used their foreign policy powers to maintain the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv and to back negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians on the status of Jerusalem.

Obama, who plans a trip to the Mideast this summer, has faced wariness among some Jewish voters over his commitment to Israel, fueled by suspicion over his comments indicating willingness to talk to Iranian leaders.

Senator Barack Obama's $845 billion United Nations-inspired give away of your hard-earned money may be coming up for a vote SOON

According to Lee Cary with the conservative blog AmericanThinker.com, Senator Barack Obama's $845 billion United Nations-inspired give away of your hard-earned money may be coming up for a vote SOON:

"The Global Poverty Act of 2007 (S.2433) is coming up for a Senate vote sometime after the July 4 recess, according the office of Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison. Once Harry Reid and the Democrat leadership put it on the calendar, we could have as little as a week to prepare for the vote." [Emphasis Mine]

Cary wrote that report just days ago on June 26th. And while we have not yet been able to confirm his report, we HAVE seen a renewed SURGE of activity by groups on the far-Left to push a vote on the Global Poverty Act.

On June 25th, Cliff Kincaid wrote of these efforts in an article titled: "Proud Pagan Witch Backs Obama's Poverty Bill."

Kincaid wrote:

"While Senator Barack Obama struggles to keep the public in the dark about the nature of his pro-U.N. Global Poverty Act, a recent 'Bay Area Interfaith Leaders' Luncheon' was held to lobby for Senate passage of the bill, whose cost has been estimated at $845 billion."

But that's not all.

In addition to this gathering of far-Left "religious leaders" in the San Francisco area, Kincaid also shared a letter he received from a concerned parent in New York which could be an indication that a wide-spread campaign is taking place throughout the country:

"Meanwhile, a concerned parent alerted us to the fact that a Christian preschool in Long Island, New York was handing out a coloring page for children which included a plea for Congress to pass Obama's Global Poverty Act. 'Dear Parents,' said the letter that was sent home. 'We would like to join efforts with the congregation of St. David's to stop world hunger. You and your child can help by coloring and signing the enclosed sheet. This sheet will be sent along with many others to our representatives in Washington..."

"The [enclosed] sheet said 'Dear Senator: At Preschool, I learned to thank God for the food I eat. I also collect coins to help those who don't have enough. Today, I ask you to help, too, with more and better aid for the world's poorest countries. We want Congress to pass the Global Poverty Act. Please cosponsor S. 2433. Thank you.' The child's name and age were supposed to be filled in.

As we have stated before, eradicating global poverty is a noble goal. But if history is any guide, we know that just throwing the money of hard-working Americans at the problem does not work.

In fact, it is unlikely that foreign aid would ever make it to the actual struggling people of recipient third world countries. Rather, it will more likely end up lining the pockets of those nations' corrupt leaders.

And, enlisting children in the effort to pass the Global Poverty Act is simply sick!

Is it possible that our elected officials are gearing up to pass the Global Poverty Act while our backs are turned... while they think we are distracted by the holiday?

If so, we can't let that happen. WE MUST LET THEM KNOW -- RIGHT HERE AND RIGHT NOW -- THAT WE ARE WATCHING!

You Remember the Global Poverty Act

That's the bill that could pave the way for putting the entire planet on U.S. taxpayer-funded welfare.

The bill's main sponsor, Senator Barack Obama -- along with the other sponsors, including a group of Republicans-In-Name-Only (RINOs) such as Senators Chuck Hagel, Olympia Snowe, and Richard Lugar -- probably hopes you have forgotten.

There are legislators on both sides of the aisle who would love nothing more than to slip it by the Senate one sleepy, summer day.

This bill has already passed the House by voice vote and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee by voice vote. That means your legislator can tell you he is "against it" even if he shouted out "Aye" at the top of his lungs.

As author Edward Cline explains: "This is a stratagem adopted by legislators who fear that a bill is so outrageous that it is better that no record be kept of those who endorsed it. S.2433 was passed from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in the same manner - by voice vote, without public hearings, to protect the identities of the guilty."

What's it about? Vincent Gioia, writing in Right Side News, says:

" The Global Poverty Act (S.2433) would require the United States to spend $845 billion ($845,000,000,000.00) on welfare to third-world countries. This amounts to a tax of over $2,000 on each man, woman and child in the United States. The foreign aid budget now stands at $300 billion; the Act would add the additional expenditure to the already huge amount allocated to assist the world."

And Phyllis Schlafly wrote recently:

"Obama's costly, dangerous and altogether bad bill (S. 2433), which could come up in the Senate any day, is called the Global Poverty Act. It would commit U.S. taxpayers to spend 0.7 percent of our Gross Domestic Product on foreign handouts..."

WorldNetDaily.com quotes Cliff Kincaid at Accuracy in Media as saying:

"[T]he legislation, if approved, dedicates 0.7 percent of the U.S. gross national product to foreign aid, which over 13 years... would amount to $845 billion 'over and above what the U.S. already spends. The plan passed the House in 2007 because most members didn't realize what was in it. Congressional sponsors have been careful not to calculate the amount of foreign aid spending that it would require."

What Are Our Elected Leaders Thinking?

Do they believe that a consortium of third-world dictators and despots can help solve the problems of the world better than the United States of America!

We are the greatest benefactors of the world's poor because we have an economic system that creates and generates wealth. And apparently Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Hagel, Snowe and Lugar want to CHANGE all that.

But this scheme to supposedly alleviate global poverty did not originate with Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Hagel, Snowe and Lugar.

It was part of a scheme -- hatched in the United Nations -- called the Millennium Development Goal, and the Global Poverty Act references the Millennium Development Goal throughout.

Dr. Jeffrey D. Sachs, a Columbia University economist, is monitoring the Millennium Development Goal.

In his 2005 report to Kofi Annan -- based on the research of 265 "poverty specialists" -- Sachs criticized the United States for giving only a mere $16.3 billion a year to alleviate global poverty.

And he has basically stated that the only way to force people to commit money to the alleviation of global poverty is through the imposition of a GLOBAL TAX.

Specifically Sachs said:

"We will need, in the end, to put real resources in support of our hopes. A global tax on carbon-emitting fossil fuels might be the way to begin."

In other words, let's tax energy at a time when the American people are struggling to pay their energy and gas bills?

We should have learned a lesson from the Oil-for-Food scandal.

As David Asman of Fox News summarized it:

"It began as a United Nations humanitarian aid program called 'Oil-for-Food,' but it ended up with Saddam Hussein pocketing billions to become the biggest graft generating machine ever and enriching some of America's most forceful opponents at the United Nations."

Even Kojo Annan -- son of former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan -- got caught with his hand in the cookie jar and a mouth full of sugar crumbs.

But you know something? Our federal legislators have learned ABSOLUTELY NOTHING from the greatest swindle of all time.

Here they are, once again trying to cram billions and billions of dollars into the hip pockets of terminally corrupt dictators, all of whom support the United Nations plan.

We can't let that happen again! Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

The Global Poverty Act Is Part of a Much Larger United Nations Scheme

By the way, the United Nations' Millennium Development Goal -- proclaimed in 2000 -- contains plans for additional assaults on your wallet. Among its other stated goals are:

a "currency transfer tax," that is, a tax imposed on companies and individuals who must exchange dollars for foreign currency;

a "tax on the rental value of land and natural resources";

and "fees for the commercial use of the oceans, fees for airplane use of the skies, fees for use of the electromagnetic spectrum, fees on foreign exchange transactions, and a tax on the carbon content of fuels."

You see, the Global Poverty Act is not only bad public policy in and of itself, it's also the first dangerous step toward adopting all of the provisions outlined in the Millennium Development Goal.

We must stop this bill, and we must stop it now!

Conservatives For B. Hussein Obama?

Conservatives For Obama?
By Thomas Sowell
July 8, 2008

A number of friends of mine have commented on an odd phenomenon that they have observed-- conservative Republicans they know who are saying that they are going to vote for Barack Obama. It seemed at first to be an isolated fluke, perhaps signifying only that my friends know some strange conservatives. But apparently columnist Robert Novak has encountered the same phenomenon and has coined the term "Obamacons" to describe the conservatives for Senator Obama.

Now the San Francisco Chronicle has run a feature article, titled "Some Influential Conservatives Spurn GOP and Endorse Obama." In it they quote various conservatives on why they are ready to take a chance on Barack Obama, rather than on John McCain.

What is going on?

Partly what is going on is that, in recent years, the Congressional Republicans in general-- and Senator John McCain in particular-- have so alienated so many conservatives that some of these conservatives are like a drowning man grasping at a straw.

The straw in this case is Obama's recent "refining" of his position on a number of issues, as he edges toward the center, in order to try to pick up more votes in November's general election.

Understandable as the reactions of some conservatives may be, a straw is a very unreliable flotation device.

If all that was involved was Democrats versus Republicans, the Republicans would deserve the condemnation they are getting, after their years of wild spending and their multiple betrayals of the principles and the people who got them elected. Amnesty for illegal aliens was perhaps the worst betrayal.

But, while the media may treat the elections as being about Democrats and Republicans-- the "horse race" approach-- elections were not set up by the Constitution of the United States in order to enable party politicians to get jobs.

Nor were elections set up in order to enable voters to vent their emotions or indulge their fantasies.

Voting is a right but it is also a duty-- a duty not just to show up on election day, but a duty to give serious thought to the alternatives on the table and what those alternatives mean for the future of the nation.

What is becoming ever more painfully apparent is that too many people this year-- whether conservative, liberals or whatever-- are all too willing to judge Barack Obama on the basis of his election-year rhetoric, rather than on the record of what he has advocated and done during the past two decades.

Many are for him for no more serious reasons than his mouth and his complexion. The man has become a Rorschach test for the feelings and hopes, not only of those on the left, but also for some on the right as well.

Here is a man who has consistently aided and abetted people who have openly expressed their contempt for this country, both in words and in such deeds as planting bombs to advance their left-wing agenda.

Conservatives For Obama?
By Thomas Sowell
July 8, 2008

Despite the spin that judging Obama by what was said or done by such people would be "guilt by association," he has not just associated with such people. He has in some cases donated some serious money of his own and even more of the taxpayers' money, as both a state senator in Illinois and a member of the Senate of the United States.

Barack Obama is on record as favoring the kinds of justices who make policy, not just carry out laws. No matter how he may "refine" his position on this issue, he voted against the confirmation of Chief Justice John Roberts, who was easily confirmed by more than three-quarters of the Senators.

Like people on the far left for literally centuries, Barack Obama plays down the dangers to the nation, and calls talk about such dangers "the politics of fear."

Back in the 18th century, Helvetius said, "When I speak I put on a mask. When I act, I am forced to take it off." Too many voters still have not learned that lesson. They need to look at the track record of Obama's actions.

Back in the days of "The Lone Ranger" program, someone would ask, "Who is that masked man?" People need to start asking that question about Barack Obama.

Sen. Barack Obama talks a good game. There's talk about hope and change, and hope and change, and even more hope and change. What exactly is he hoping to change? No one really knows, but one thing is clear: the more we get to know him, the more we realize that his actions are quite different than his "hope and change" rhetoric.

As an example, take his recent speech about pay discrimination between men and women. Obama told the audience in Albuquerque, NM that he supports "a Senate bill to make it easier to sue an employer for pay discrimination." Yet, upon a review of Obama's payroll, we learn that women are paid less than men. Keep talking Sen. Obama.

As reported by CNSNews.com, "While Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has vowed to make pay equity for women a top priority if elected president, an analysis of his Senate staff shows that women are outnumbered and out-paid by men. That is in contrast to Republican presidential candidate John McCain's Senate office, where women, for the most part, out-rank and are paid more than men."

In his speech, Obama spoke about how his single mom worked to raise her family. He spoke of hardships of his grandmother, and also his wife. He set the stage beautifully by noting the successes of these women... then what did he do? He blasted Sen. John McCain, saying, "But when you look at our records and our plans on issues that matter to working women, the choice could not be clearer. ... It starts with equal pay."

It starts with equal pay? Did he seriously say that with a straight face? As CNSNews.com notes in their analysis, "On average, women working in Obama's Senate office were paid at least $6,000 below the average man working for the Illinois senator." CNSNews.com also points out that "of the five people in Obama's Senate office who were paid $100,000 or more on an annual basis, only one -- Obama's administrative manager -- was a woman."

In contrast, women outnumbered men on McCain's Senate payroll by 30 to 16. The women were paid an average of $3,000 more than the men.

Obama sounds less and less like an advocate of hope and change, and more and more like a typical politician. In his speech Obama said, "We can't afford an economy where folks keep working harder for less. We can't let the women in our workforce get paid even less for doing the same work." Oh really? It appears that Obama, as an employer, has no problems doing exactly what he is speaking against. I guess he means "other" employers. Certainly we shouldn't look at what his own hiring practices really are, right? This is just one other part of his record that he'd prefer be kept out of the spotlight.

Near the end of his speech, Obama said, "I want my daughters to grow up in an America where they have opportunities that are even greater than their mother had, or their grandmothers, or their great grandmothers -- an America where our daughters truly have the same opportunities as our sons."

Note to Obama's daughters.... Don't go to work for your dad.

Obama Tells American Kids to Learn Spanish

I hope the American public is watching. For months, Barack Obama was a blank slate. The only thing people knew about him was that he gave a good speech and that he wanted "change." This apparently was enough to garner him the Democratic presidential nomination. (That should be a clue to most Americans NOT to vote for him.) But now, with no help from the media, the real Barack Obama is starting to appear.

The media won't write stories about what he says, but they don't need to. With today's technology, we can see for ourselves, and this latest incident is a doozy! Our education system is crazy enough with all these liberal, feel-good programs. Forget adding, subtracting, spelling, and grammar. Now, despite the fact that the rest of the world is learning English, he says that American kids should learn Spanish? What? Learn Spanish? Yes, and it shows just how out of touch and far left Obama is. We need a president who will put America first, not push for our culture to be forgotten.

What an absolutely ridiculous speech. We need to make sure our kids can speak Spanish? Why? That is the question. Oh, and I have the answer. It's because the liberals are quite happy seeing millions of illegal aliens pour across our border and do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about it. Rather than solve the problem of illegal immigration by enforcing laws and securing our border (after all, if we did that, liberals would call us racists), the far left would rather Americans simply learn Spanish. That is their solution to the problem.

And it is definitely becoming more and more of a problem. Example... during these very nice summer months, my kids love to go swimming with me at our neighborhood pool. We go in the late morning and spend an hour or two there. Afterward, we come home for lunch. On some days, we go out, and they love it when we get sandwiches at Subway. Getting the sandwiches, however, has become more and more of an ordeal. In fact, the last time we went, it took forever simply because I couldn't understand the attendant, and the attendant couldn't understand me.

I'll have a six-inch ham sandwich on wheat with lettuce and tomato... All I got was a blank stare. I repeated the order, with my daughter looking on. The lady finally grabbed the wheat bread and then selected turkey. No... I said ham.

Now, this being a Subway restaurant in AMERICA, one would think that I could place my order in English. Wrong. This must be a Barack Obama Subway restaurant, and the only way to place an order is to do it in Spanish. Hmmm... I guess I should thank Obama for his speech. What he was trying to get across was the idea that we should teach our kids Spanish just so we can order a sandwich at an American restaurant. Thanks Obama for looking out for me!

Sarcasm aside, Barack Obama continues to show that he is not ready for the presidency, and more importantly, America is not ready for him. Our kids should not be told to learn Spanish. Our kids should be told to learn English and math and science, so they can become contributing American citizens. Obama's example in his speech is that Americans sound silly when they go to France because they can only say a simple phrase. What's his point? Is he saying that we should all learn French for that day that we spend thousands of dollars to travel to France?

English has become the language of international business, commerce, science, and technology. Other nations learn English, because English is the "universal" language in which things get done. Only in America (an English-speaking country) would left-wing Barack Obama tell Americans that their kids should learn Spanish.

'Where Do You Stand on Gun Bans?'

Following the recent landmark Second Amendment ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court, the National Shooting Sports Foundation sent presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) a letter, dated July 4, asking whether he believes laws in his hometown of Chicago that ban law-abiding citizens from having firearms, including handguns in their homes, violate the Second Amendment. Read the Letter | Press Release

July 4, 2008
The Honorable Barack Obama
United States Senate
SH-713
Washington, D.C. 20510
Dear Senator Obama:
Last week the U.S. Supreme Court in the landmark decision District of Columbia, et al. v. Heller held that the Second Amendment protects the right of law-abiding Americans to “keep and bear arms,” including handguns. Recently, you have claimed the Second Amendment provides an individual right to own firearms. Your current position stands in stark contrast to your support while an Illinois state senator for banning the civilian ownership of handguns. Prior to the Heller decision, you said you believed Washington, D.C.’s gun ban did not violate the Second Amendment. Much like the District of Columbia, your hometown of Chicago has since 1982 effectively banned its law-abiding citizens from having handguns and long guns in their homes.
In light of the Heller decision, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association for the firearms industry, would like to know whether you believe the City of Chicago’s gun ban violates the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Chicago residents? Do you continue to support banning an entire class of firearms from private ownership by law-abiding citizens, including your fellow Chicago residents? Do you believe the Second Amendment rights of Americans should depend on where they happen to live? If you do, which other individual rights enshrined in the Constitution do you believe are limited by municipal borders?
We look forward to receiving your responses to these important questions so that the over 90 million law-abiding Americans that own firearms can know where you truly stand on the Second Amendment.
Sincerely,
Lawrence G. Keane

Obama’s Mystery Taping..So They Say...

With his pool crew in tow, Barack Obama headed to the Clark Chateau Museum, a stately brick mansion on Washington Street in Butte, Montana. The candidate was to do some sort of taping, the campaign said. We were initially told the taping had something to do with the DNC Convention, but the campaign later advised pool reporters waiting outside on the press bus that the taping was a routine taping with the campaign’s new media division, a group of staffers who shoot on DV cameras for the campaign’s website, much as the embed producers for the networks cover presidential candidates.
After an hour and ten minutes inside, the candidate emerged and got back on his bus. Following him out of the building - crews carrying Super 16 film cameras and one Davis Guggenheim, the director of the Academy Award winning documentary, An Inconvenient Truth.
A woman named Aleish riding on the press bus - not a regular in the traveling press corps - informed the pool that she was a makeup artist hired by Essence, and spilled that they were inside doing a documentary for the DNC. Not so said traveling press secretary Jen Psaki, who emailed this producer, “It is a new media taping and [I] don’t have anything else to add.”
Poolers scratched their heads on the ride back to Obama’s Butte hotel, and when we arrived, Guggenheim emerged from Obama’s bus. The pool approached Mr. Guggenheim in the hotel parking lot, and the filmmaker admitted he’d interviewed Obama. Seeing cameras running and pens scribbling, he told the press he’d talk to us after he cleared it with the campaign as he wasn’t sure the mystery taping was on the record. He added with a laugh that he was traveling with his young son, who stood by his side.
Perhaps realizing Guggenheim and his crew then boarded the press bus to a hotel around the corner, Psaki sent the pool another email reading, “Was a new media taping for the dnc. I am sorry we were not more specific. We don’t have additional details to share at this time.”

Fingerprint Database Turns Up U.S. Arrest Records

WASHINGTON — Information coming in from fingerprinting around the globe is proving to be extremely beneficial to efforts in the War on Terror.
Officials have found that many of the foreign fighters and detainees they've fingerprinted have U.S. arrest records — many for drunken driving, passing bad checks and traffic violations, and some of them very lengthy.
The Washington Post reports in Sunday editions that in the weeks and months after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, the FBI and U.S. military began coordinating the effort of fingerprinting fighters on the battlefield and others pulled in for questioning or detention.
An FBI team sent to Afghanistan in December 2001 interviewed foreign fighters and brought back fingerprint results to the bureau's criminal biometric database. The team found that for every 100 detainees fingerprinted, at least one came up with an arrest record in the U.S.
One of the men fingerprinted was Mohamed al Qahtani. At the time he was captured, he claimed he was in Afghanistan to learn the art of falconry. But when his fingerprints were traced, it turned out he'd been denied entry into Orlando International Airport in August 2001, just a month before the Sept. 11 attacks. The Sept. 11 commission later identified him as someone who was planning to take part in the attacks. Al Qahtani has been referred to as the 20th hijacker. He's currently being held in Guantanamo Bay.
/**/

Fingerprints are being sent in from places all over the world, including Pakistan, the Philippines, Iraq, Afghanistan, Colombia and North Africa. Officials told the Post that 365 Iraqis who have applied to the Department of Homeland Security hoping for refugee status have been denied because their fingerprints turned up in a database of known or suspected terrorists.
That has critics questioning just how all the information is being used and whether people are unknowingly being categorized as terrorists without even knowing their personal information is being used.
Senior U.S. officials acknowledge it's not yet a perfect system and they are working hard to balance privacy concerns against national security and he success they're having in learning crucial information. The FBI says that following an audit by the Justice Department inspector general's office, it has changed some of the guidelines for using the information.
President Bush signed a directive last month giving the attorney general and other Cabinet officials 90 days to come up with a plan on how to expand the use of the data.

Exaggerating Barack Hussein Obama

In his first ad of the post-primary season Obama exaggerated his legislative record and now in a second ad he continues to deceive. We have already noted how he claims credit for welfare reform despite being against it (and exaggerates his role in implementing the policy) but it turns out Obama even lies about his own history:
Obama’s latest ad repeats an often-stated claim, saying he “worked his way through college and Harvard Law.” We know Obama took out loans to get himself through school. But the campaign provided information on just two jobs Obama had in those years, and they were both in the summer.
[. . .]
The ad begins with the announcer telling us that Obama “worked his way through college and Harvard Law.” Actually, Obama took out loans to get himself through college, as we heard in a 60-second ad his campaign began running last month. We don’t know how much assistance his family provided.
But “worked his way” through college and law school? The only back-up the campaign provided for this claim was a quote from Obama’s book “Dreams from My Father” having to do with a construction job he had one summer while he was in college, and an article mentioning his job as a summer associate one year at a big Chicago law firm. We asked campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor if Obama held jobs during the school year, or other summer jobs, but he said only, “He had the two jobs I told you about.” Unless Obama had a good bit more employment than his spokesman was able to describe for us, it’s a real stretch to claim he “worked his way” through school.
This guys resume is so thin he has to exaggerate his work in college! And we all thought the Clintons were the audacious liars!
